Back Cove is probably the most iconic trail within the Portland Trails system, which is why I made it the first stop on my journey to hike all of the  Portland Trails this year  Hundreds of people walk, jog, and bike this trail each day. Back Cove provides a beautiful view of the city of Portland while still giving one a multi-sensory experience that feels like you aren’t in the city.

The trail is mostly paved, with a section of sand/dirt.

During late spring and summer, Fleet Feet Sports Maine Running holds a weekly 5K race on Wednesday nights called The Weekly Back Cove Series.

If you’ve got an hour or so to kill, this is an easy and fun trail to walk and check off your list!
